The breeding season of dogs occurs twice a year, usually in the months of March to May during spring and September to November during autumn.

The breeding season of dogs typically occurs twice a year, primarily during the spring months of March to May and the autumn months of September to November. These two periods mark the estrus phase for female dogs, which is also the best time for mating with male dogs.

However, female dogs typically experience their first estrus between 6 to 10 months of age, but it is not suitable for breeding at this time as their sexual and physical maturity have not been fully achieved. Generally, the initial breeding age for female dogs is around 1.5 years old, while for male dogs, it is after 2 years of age.

Additionally, the breeding cycle of dogs generally lasts 6 to 8 months, and during each cycle, female dogs will have 1 to 2 estrus periods. The length and interval of estrus vary depending on the breed of the dog.

Please note that frequent breeding can have a certain impact on the health of dogs. Before breeding, it is important to ensure that the dogs are in good physical health and to select suitable mates for them.

Diet: During this period, dogs need nutritionally rich and easily digestible food. In addition to dog food, vegetables and coarse grains can be given as supplements to balance nutrition and prevent constipation. Avoid giving your dog cold or highly stimulating foods. Ensure sufficient water supply for your dog, preferably warm water with a little honey added occasionally.

Care: Female dogs during estrus will continuously discharge secretions from their genitals. It is important to keep them clean. Prepare clean warm water, a basin, and a towel to clean the genital area daily. Choose soft materials for your dog's bed and pads, and keep them hygienic. If proper cleaning and care are not provided during estrus, it can easily lead to vaginal inflammation and infection. Also, pay attention to keeping your dog warm, as they tend to have a lower resistance during this period and are prone to catching colds.

Walking the Dog: During the mating season, whether your dog is a female or male, if you do not plan to breed, please ensure that you keep a tight hold on the leash. When it's love at first sight, the dog may forget all about its owner. Female dogs can wear a dog-specific safety panty when going out to protect themselves.

Sterilization: The most convenient method is sterilization, which can eliminate all the above troubles and also reduce the incidence of some diseases. Sterilization surgery is recommended to be done before the dog turns one year old or after its first estrus. However, sterilization is not a perfect solution, as it may cause problems such as urine leakage, obesity, and changes in hair quality. Dog owners should weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.
