What Is A Pulse Oximeter And The Necessity Of Using It
by len king on Apr 21, 2022
The pulse oximeter is a device that measures arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate through the skin. When lung or heart disease reduces the ability to draw oxygen into the body, the SpO2 level decreases.
Why is it so important to monitor your blood oxygen levels?
Many people with COVID-19, which can cause infections in your lungs that can lower your blood oxygen levels, don't know it because they don't have any symptoms. When your blood oxygen level is low, you may feel tired or short of breath, but you may also not feel any different. This is a dangerous situation. You should continue to monitor your oxygen level with a fingertip oximeter until you feel better. If your oxygen level drops, you should seek medical attention immediately.
